Srinagar, Apr 21: Continuing its drive against illegal mining and transportation of minerals, J&K Police seized 15 vehicles (Tractors & Tippers, JCB) for illegal extraction of minor minerals in Ganderbal, Anantnag and Shopian.
In Ganderbal, Police seized 04 vehicles (Tractors) for illegal extraction of minor minerals in the jurisdiction of PS Kangan & PS Gund. These vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid authorization, in violation of the prescribed norms.
Accordingly, the vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was taken up with the concerned Geology & Mining Department, which subsequently imposed the requisite fine under the relevant provisions of law.
In Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Larnoo intercepted the vehicles (Tippers) coming from the Kokernag side during the intervening night. On inspection, all four were carrying minor minerals in violation of mining rules. zetails of seized vehicles/drivers: Bilal Ahmad resident of Nallah Sunbrari, Kokernag (JK05A-6814), Ghulam Rasool Sheikh resident of Wandevelgam, Kokernag (JK03M-1127), Jahangir Ahmad Sheikh resident of (JK03B-6069) & Shabir Ahmad Khan resident of Mathandoo (JK03B-4399). The vehicles have been seized and legal proceedings initiated in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department.
During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted and seized three tractors engaged in illegal mining without requisite permissions. In this regard, FIR No. 22/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and investigation has been set into motion.
In a similar operation, a police party from Police Post Saidpora seized a tractor involved in illegal mining activities without valid authorization. Additionally, one JCB and two tractors were also seized for their involvement in illegal mining. Accordingly, FIR Nos. 25/2026 and 26/2026 have been registered at Police Station Heerpora and further investigation is underway.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to curb illegal mining activities in the district and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in protecting natural resources. Strict action will continue against those found indulging in such unlawful practices.
